WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING?

Psychological counselling is a professional support process designed for individuals who wish to understand themselves and their behaviour, increase and develop their self-awareness, who occasionally face difficulties in coping with life events, and who wish to identify their problems and find ways to resolve them. In broader terms, it is a process that helps individuals cope with adjustment issues arising from situations they encounter in daily life.

Within the psychological counselling process, the person receiving help is referred to as the ‘client’, and the professional providing the help is referred to as the ‘counsellor’.

One of the fundamental principles of psychological counselling is confidentiality. The content of the session and what is discussed is not shared with others. Consequently, all sessions conducted with the individual remain confidential, from the moment the service is sought until after the process has been concluded. However, information may be shared with the relevant authorities if there is a risk of harm to the individual or another person, or if there is a threat to life.

Our individual psychological counselling sessions can take place in person or online. Sessions last approximately 50 minutes. The timing, frequency and duration of the sessions are decided in consultation with the client.
